Trump And Sports World At Odds Over Comments He Made

The President of America is at it again. He recently attacked some in the sports world. Two names come to the fore. Colin Kaepernick and Stephen Curry are the persons he recently attacked.

His actions caused the NFL players to take action by protesting. It has also caused rebuttal from prominent NBA stars.

Trump gave his speech during a rally in Huntsville Alabama. He didn’t deal with some of the more important issues. Instead he lashed out at those in the sporting world.

Trump asked that those who took a similar stance to Kaepernick be fired.  Kaepernick acted in response to the brutality of police officers towards African Americans.

Trump rescinded what he considered an invitation to the White House. He tweeted “going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team. Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!”

Refusal

The refusal of some athletes brings to light the growing problems the Country faces. Racism has continued to show its ugly head.

Curry and Durant have been very outspoken about Trump. They chose not to go to the White House. They said they don’t appreciate the one who is the President.

But Trump hasn’t taken their words quietly. He has given a rebuttal. Now tensions run high as stars like James and Bryant tweeted about Trump’s actions.

Trump said “wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out! He’s fired. He’s fired!’ ”

He continued “You know, some owner is going to do that. He’s going to say, ‘That guy that disrespects our flag, he’s fired.’ And that owner, they don’t know it [but] they’ll be the most popular person in this country.”

Roger Goodell responded to Trump’s comments. Goodell is the NFL Comissioner.

He said “divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players. And a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities.”

Goodell certainly wasn’t pleased with what Trump said.

But Trump responded with a tweet. He said “Roger Goodell of NFL just put out a statement trying to justify the total disrespect certain players show to our country.”

War of Words

It seems just about anyone and the President is at odds at times. Players wanted to know what kind of protests are allowed.

A sure sign many are disgusted with Trump’s remarks. A great amount of owners and players took offense to what was said.

Many believe the issue is race related. Tim Miller who is a Republican operative said this about Trump.

Miller said “Trump has no interest in trying to bridge racial tensions.”

“He wants to play into white grievance policies. He wants to continue to divide the Country further and to expand the wedge.”
