The Russian probe continued to create pressure for many individuals. Allegations still spread throughout the political scope and justice system.
Attorney Jeff Sessions was called a liar by a number of witnesses and President Trump continued to deny any collusion.
Adam Schiff said Trump was removing anyone who could support former FBI Director James Comey’s story. Andrew McCabe was recently fired from the post of Deputy FBI Director and considered a perfect example of this.
A showdown between Trump and Robert Mueller was possible as Trump’s lawyer asked for an end to the inquiry.
SCL Group, a British political and defense contractor was accused of working with Russia. Alexander Nix, a Director of the company denied the claim.
The said company worked for the Trump campaign during the election.
Fake Or Not Fake
Many of the claims made by both sides had been considered fake. Trump and his team accused Mueller and the Democrats who denied those claims. It was the same for both and many American may not know who to believe.
“The Mueller probe should never have been started in that there was no collusion and there was no crime,” Trump wrote. “It was based on fraudulent activities and a Fake Dossier paid for by Crooked Hillary and the DNC, and improperly used in FISA COURT for surveillance of my campaign. WITCH HUNT!”
Everyone certainly didn’t share Trump’s views.
“If you have an innocent client, Mr. Dowd, act like it,” Trey Gowdy said on “Fox News Sunday.” “Russia attacked our Country. Let Special Counsel Mueller figure that out.”
Retaliation Possible
There was an expectation that Trump’s firing of McCabe could back fire. Schiff believed that Trump’s purpose for firing McCabe was related to Comey.
“If he was holding anything back out of loyalty to the FBI or a sense of duty, well that just walked out the door. If he has any information he hasn’t revealed out of a sense of loyalty that might be told now.”
There was also talk about if Trump might try to fire Mueller.
“Any attempt by the President to obstruct or remove the special counsel would create a constitutional crisis and represent an attack on the core American principle that nobody, including the President of the United States, is above the law,” warned Democratic Senator Chris Coons.
Another issue that could hurt Trump was why Sessions lied about contact with Russia. It was believed and shown that Sessions lied to investigators.
“Proving there was intent to lie is a heavy burden for the prosecution. But now you have multiple places where Sessions has arguably made false statements,” said Bennett Gershman.
