Circulating reports that Trump paid hush money just before election time and that he could be subpoenaed was a big issue.
The question though was which of the two issues could be most concerning for him?
It was clear that what was now being told was contrary to what was revealed months before. The new revelation about repaying Michael Cohen also raised integrity concerns for Sarah Sanders.
The White House Press Secretary faced questions regarding what she knew about the statement. Did she knowingly lie about the matter?
She claimed that she didn’t, repeating many times “again, I gave you the best information that I had.”
Trump’s new attorney Rudy Giuliani was the one who revealed Trump repaid Cohen.
It was reported that he met with Trump in November 2016 at Trump International Golf Club.
He believed there was a possibility of Robert Mueller subpoenaing Trump. He said he would be prepared if this had to actually happen.
Trump vs Mueller
There was expectancy at one stage for Trump and Mueller to meet for an interview. This never materialized since his lawyers at the time felt it was a bad idea.
Trump recently acquired the services of Giuliani and Emmet Flood. Flood represented Bill Clinton during his impeachment proceedings.
“I think Emmet was brought in because he represented Clinton during their subpoena battle and knows a great deal about it,” Giuliani said.
Giuliani was once the Mayor of New York and may have been one of the more famous persons to lead there.
“I think it’s 50/50,” Giuliani said. “But I got to prepare for that 50 percent.” He felt that Trump could be forced to testify.
Pay Out Woes
The hush money issue was a big thing for Trump and his allies. It showed no signs of letting up in any hurry.
Furthermore it looked as if it could become more of an issue, with Mueller even looking into its significance.
This was one of the reasons that Cohen’s office was raided by FBI in April 2018.
The payment was such a significant issue that Giuliani tried to vindicate Trump by saying Cohen was repaid.
This however made the situation worse as questions were raised as to where the money came from and if Trump lied about the payment.
He had said earlier that he didn’t know that Cohen made such a payment, but now that could be proven to be false.
Giuliani’s interview with Sean Hannity could prove worse for Trump. Did he make the wrong decision by hiring Giuliani? His revelations on the Fox show were startling to say the least.
“He didn’t know about the specifics of it as far as I know,” Mr. Giuliani said. “But he did know about the general arrangement that Michael would take care of things like this.”
Laura Ingraham followed that interview and was awe struck at what transpired.
She said “I love Rudy, but they better have an explanation for that. That’s a problem.”
