As Americans gear up to cast their votes, a host of companies are stepping up to ensure that getting to the polls is easier and more rewarding than ever. This Election Day, voters can look forward to a slew of enticing deals, from half-priced rides to delicious dining discounts—all aimed at boosting voter turnout. In a clever navigation around the 1948 Federal Election Commission rules against election-day giveaways, businesses are offering a range of incentives that promise to add a dash of excitement to fulfilling your civic duty.
Uber Takes The Lead With Substantial Discounts
Uber has enhanced its app with new features specifically designed for Election Day. A prominent ‘Go Vote!’ tile will be displayed on the home screen of the Uber app. When users tap this tile, they will find several helpful options:
- Locate Your Polling Place: Users can enter their home address to find their nearest polling station. The app then allows them to book a ride directly to the polling place.
- Discounted Rides: Riders in the U.S. will receive 50% off rides to their polling places, with savings of up to $10.
- Election Night Promotions: As the results start coming in, users can avail themselves of 25% off Uber Eats orders after 6 p.m., with a maximum discount of $15 on orders that meet a minimum of $25.
Additionally, to celebrate and encourage voting, UberX cars will feature an American flag wrap, serving both as a reminder and a celebration of civic duty.
Lyft’s Commitment Through Voting Access Program
Similarly, Lyft is offering a 50% discount, up to $10 off, on rideshares, bikes, and scooters to the polls. This initiative is part of Lyft’s broader LyftUp Voting Access Program, which was initiated over a decade ago. Lyft’s Chief Policy Officer, Jerry Golden, stated that the program aims to ensure transportation isn’t a barrier to voting. Since its inception in 2014, Lyft has helped approximately three million voters reach polling places.
