Roy Moore Refuses To Concede After Loss To Doug Jones In Alabama Election

The wait was finally over, the Alabama election had concluded with Democrat Doug Jones getting the victory.

Roy Moore refused to back out of the race and President Trump threw his support behind him. This decision ultimately made no difference in the end.

For many the allegations were probably the deciding factor, regardless of this he refused to accept the election results.

The citizens of Alabama had made their decision and they preferred Jones. How significant of a victory this will be for Democrats remained to be seen.

Moore’s Loss

Moore refused to accept the decision and said it wasn’t over. He said “when the vote is this close, it is not over.”

Moore received 48.4 percent while Jones got 49.9 percent, a difference of 1.5 percent .

CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill if the outcome would change. He asked the question after Moore gave a speech.

Tapper asked Merrill if he thought “anything other than Mr. Jones being the next Senator from the State of Alabama.” Merrill responded “I would find that highly unlikely to occur, Jake.”

Moore had lost and nothing he said would change that. Unless some sort of fraud was discovered it was unlikely the results would change.

Jones Victory

A report indicated that Jones won because African American women voted for him.

Symone D. Sanders said “Doug Jones would not have won today without the turnout we saw from African-American voters. Black women have been absolutely clear in their support for Democratic policies and Democratic candidates. It’s high time for Democrats … to invest in that effort.”

Sanders, a Democratic strategist said “black women have been attempting to save America since the dawn of time.”

“That doesn’t mean we should allow the fate of America to be laid at the feet of black women—it has to be a multicultural effort,” she continued.

Bernice King said “it’s no coincidence that Selma, where blood was shed in the struggle for voting rights for Black people, pushed Doug Jones ahead for good.”

“At the end of the day, this entire race has been about dignity and respect,” Jones said “This campaign has been about the rule of law. This campaign has been about common courtesy and decency and making sure that everyone in this state, regardless of which Zip code you live in, is going to get a fair shake.”

The journey for Jones now began; hopefully he can make a difference.
