The announcement by the President to relocate the U.S Embassy to Jerusalem was in keeping with a campaign promise. The Embassy was currently located in Tel Aviv.
His decision had met resistance from at home and abroad. The recognition by Trump of Jerusalem being recognized as Israel’s capital faced criticism as well.
Nevertheless Trump seemed intent on carrying out this promise. He said many Presidents before him also made this promise, but never delivered.
For him the matter wasn’t political but rather diplomatic.
His decision had seen an increase in unrest in Israel. His decision caused many going to the streets in protest. They burned American flags and photos of Trump.
Always Trump’s Intention
Reports indicate it was always Trump intention to move the embassy to Jerusalem. Morton A. Klein said he told a friend of his about Trump’s intentions and said he was excited.
Klein said “he was very excited, as was I. This is something that’s in his heart and soul.”
“While previous Presidents have made this a major campaign promise,” Trump said, “they failed to deliver. Today, I am delivering.”
Christopher Ruddy said “people are waking up to the fact that the President doesn’t see grays and doesn’t like pastels.”
“He is very proud that he’s fulfilled so many campaign promises, and the embassy decision is another notch on his belt,” he continued.
Evangelicals Happy
It was reported that evangelicals were happy with Trump’s decision. They believed that Jerusalem had significance.
Tony Perkins, the President of the Family Research Council certainly believed so. Perkins said “in the meetings I was in, it was clearly communicated that evangelicals and Bible-believing Christians see a special relationship with Israel.”
Mr. Mattis said “we met in the room on this. It was an open discussion, went on for some time. As always, my advice to the president, I keep confidential.”
Some of Trump’s staff supported his decision, while others were reserved about his choice.
“It would be folly to assume that repeating the exact same formula would now produce a different or better result,” Mr. Trump said.
He made reference to the fact that nothing else worked so why not try something different.
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem,” Pastor Robert Jeffress said. “And thank God we have a President who would take this step.”
Evangelicals were certainly happy with Trump. Despite their being a chance of violence the President and evangelicals believed it will work out for the best.
