A tragic shooting in Dallas late Thursday night resulted in the death of one police officer and injuries to two others, as confirmed by authorities. The incident unfolded when Dallas police officers were dispatched to southern Dallas in response to a distress call from a fellow officer, according to Kristin Lowman, the communications director for the Dallas Police Department, who addressed the media early Friday morning.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered that one of their own had been shot while inside his marked patrol vehicle. As additional officers responded to the situation, they encountered an armed suspect, leading to an exchange of gunfire. During this intense exchange, two of the responding officers were struck by gunfire.
Pursuit and Fatal Conclusion
The suspect quickly fled the scene, prompting a pursuit by Dallas police officers along Interstate 35E, reaching as far as Lewisville. The chase came to a dramatic end when the suspect stopped and exited their vehicle while brandishing a long gun. In the confrontation that followed, Dallas officers opened fire, fatally wounding the suspect.
