We had finally begun a new year and changes had been few. One of the biggest topics and investigations still chugged along.
The Russian inquiry conducted by Robert Mueller and the other by the House Intel Committee still remained unfinished.
On one hand the head of the Intel committee believed there was no collusion. On another hand it was said Mueller was doing a good job.
The investigation had reached a critical point. Mueller and the FBI could be investigated if some had their way.
This was a grave concern, since it was Mueller a former FBI Director and his team leading a delicate investigation.
If this group wasn’t trust worthy, then who is?
Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci also pitched on the matter. He said that President Trump didn’t go near the Russians. It was unclear if he was speaking the truth.
It was thought his motive for saying so could be related to his friendship with Trump.
Comparisons
Veteran journalist Carl Bernstein believed that Trump wanted to fire Mueller.
He said “there are many times he has expressed, I’m told by people in the White House, the desire to fire Mueller, the desire to pardon people under investigation including his family.”
Bernstein was referring to Trump and thought that he would fire Mueller if it wouldn’t make him look bad in the public’s eye.
“His lawyers are telling him what he wants to hear — that’s what I’m told — by lawyers in the White House, they’re telling him what he wants to hear to keep him from acting precipitously and to go off and fire Mueller in a rage, or fire (Deputy Attorney General) Rod Rosenstein in a rage. They have an out-of-control client,” he said.
Bernstein added: “The President of the United States, in their view, is out of control most of the time, in their view, when it comes to this investigation.”
Bob Woodward said “Mueller is going to do this job.” He also appeared beside Bernstein as the two men spoke on CNN “State of the Union.”
Devin Nunes
Nunes thought what Trump said was truthful. He said he couldn’t locate any sign of collusion with Russia. He instead turned his attention to Robert Mueller and the FBI.
“We have no evidence of Russia collusion between the Trump campaign” and Russia, Nunes said.
He had set his sights on FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Talks of contempt were made against these men.
Democrats said Nunes actions cost them a great loss. A large number of subpoenas were never issued. Nunes handed the authority of such matters to Michael Conaway, Thomas Rooney and Trey Gowdy.
These men wanted to know how many more people needed to be interviewed. Why and for what purpose since no evidence was yet produced?
“You can interview anybody that’s ever met a Russian in the government and it’s not going to get you any closer,” said Rooney. “Ten months, how many witnesses? I want to know, ask them how much longer they want to go. How many more witnesses do they need to hear, and specifically which witnesses, and why?”
“I’m interested in getting access to the information and not the drama,” said Gowdy.
It was believed that the inquiry lacked proper management and transparency. But some would argue the same about Mueller’s handling of his Intel.
Let us just hope that the inquiries are done in an honest and just manner. The American people deserve the truth.
