The wife of President Trump, Melania Trump faced criticism for a recent wardrobe accessory.
She wore a jacket that said “I really don’t care. Do U?” The jacket was worn on the same day the First Lady visited children detained at the border, but not during her visit.
In recent days the White House had faced criticism for separating families that crossed the border illegally.
Melania Trump had spoken out against the decision, asking both sides to stop what they were doing.
She had called on both Republicans and Democrats to stop what was considered inhumane.
Mixed Signals
It could be considered a case of mixed signals from the First Lady who wanted the families to be reunited.
The idea of wearing jacket with such wording could be considered heartless after visiting children who were separated from their parents.
Some were quick to lash out at the gesture as they felt the jacket was inappropriate at such a delicate time.
Dina Titus posted a pic of herself and Melania on Twitter, She shoed herself wearing a sign on her back saying “I Care.”
“Hey, #FLOTUS, try this on for size,” she said in a tweet.
The White House defended the First Lady’s wearing of the jacket, claiming it wasn’t sending any messages, just fashion.

“It’s a jacket. There was no hidden message,” Stephanie Grisham said. “After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn’t going to choose to focus on her wardrobe,” adding, “(Much like her high heels last year).”
Grisham, who was the First Lady’s spokesperson, responded to queries about what the wearing of the jacket meant.
“There was no hidden message. After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope this isn’t what the media is going to choose to focus on,” she said.
“I’m here to learn about your facility,” Mrs. Trump said and added that she wanted to offer “help to these children to reunite with their families as quickly as possible.”
It seemed very possible that the First Lady may have overlooked what the jacket may cause others to think.
Unfortunately despite making it clear to officials she was willing to help, the attire didn’t go down well with the public.
Nevertheless the fact that she visited the children should still be considered.
It may also be wiser for the First Lady to choose her attire more carefully next time, unless she was truly sending a message.
If that was the case what could that message be after showing such concern prior to the wearing of the jacket?
