Sources from law enforcement, speaking with WGN, indicated that the maggots may have been introduced by activists aiming to make a statement. Indiana Democratic Party spokesperson Sam Barloga commented, “All Americans have the right to peaceful protest, but ugly attacks like this have no place in our democracy. Although neither the DNC information center nor the Fairmont Chicago, the hotel hosting the event, has explicitly confirmed the presence of maggots, both have acknowledged the disruption caused and the resulting food safety concerns. The Fairmont Chicago released a statement to Fox News Digital, saying, “We can confirm that a group of individuals caused a disruption at a DNC-related breakfast event at our hotel this morning. We are grateful for the swift response of law enforcement.”
The hotel further emphasized their commitment to the safety, security, and well-being of guests and staff. “Our team acted immediately to clean and sanitize the area, ensuring that the event could continue without further incident. Indiana delegate Tracy Boyd, representing the Indianapolis region at the convention, shared that her group was informed of a brief delay in breakfast service due to the incident. “They protected us, of course, and turned it around in minutes. I really do want to give a shout-out to the hotel staff and leadership,” Boyd said.
