Democrats Continue To Push Gun Laws Despite Trump’s Denial Of Need For Change

President Trump said recently that the gun laws don’t need changing. He was recently questioned by a reporter while on his Asian tour.

He made reference to Chicago in support what he said. But his claims appeared to be misguided. The gun related crimes in Chicago dropped after it kept stricter gun laws.

Those laws were eventually removed which saw a rise in gun related deaths. Trump apparently didn’t know this when he made that comment.

Calling Chicago a disaster doesn’t change the need for gun reform. Too many innocent lives are lost. Yet guns in and of themselves don’t kill people.

The issue is deeper than just owning a gun, it is more so who owns that gun. This had prompted a call for more vetting.

Democrats Pleas

California Sen. Dianne Feinstein and 22 other Democrats want to see changes in gun laws. They wanted to see a ban on assault weapons.

It was noted that most mass shootings were done with assault weapons.

William Vizzard said “we’ve pumped so damn many of these black rifles now into the population that anything that preserves them retroactively means there’s going to be a huge population floating around at gun shows and sales.”

This matter was always controversial and it is even harder to win over Trump because of his relationship with the NRA.

Resistance

The latest mass killing which saw rise to fresh cries for more gun control was also used by the NRA. It is reported that they have the person who killed the shooter on their website.

It also has a slogan to support its claim for guns. The slogan read “the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun.”

An estimate of over 300 million guns could be found in the US. Millions from that number could be semiautomatic.

With Trump reportedly in support of the NRA, the situation could be hopeless. He is the one who needs to see the need for gun reform.

Democrats hope that Trump would recognize this. It doesn’t seem likely as the latest response from him showed in favor of present laws.

Feinstein and Democrats still push on nevertheless. They have given their reason for such legislation.

Feinstein said “for one reason: so that after every mass shooting with a military-style assault weapon, the American people will know that a tool to reduce these massacres is sitting in the Senate, ready for debate and a vote.”

Hopefully changes in law and stricter vetting of persons are enough.
