Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA who rose to national recognition for mobilizing young voters in support of Donald Trump, has died at the age of 31 after being shot while appearing at a college event in Utah. Former President Trump announced the news of his passing Wednesday on Truth Social, confirming that Kirk had succumbed to his injuries following the attack.
Trump expressed deep sorrow in his post, writing, “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Andrew Kolvet, a spokesman for Kirk, also confirmed his death to The New York Times.
The Attack at Utah Valley University
Kirk was attacked around 12:10 p.m. while speaking to students at Utah Valley University during his “American Comeback Tour.” The incident occurred as he was answering a question about mass shootings when a bullet struck his neck. Security personnel immediately rushed him to the hospital in an effort to save his life.
Authorities initially detained a suspect who was handcuffed at the scene, but that individual was later released as police continued their search for the actual shooter. Meanwhile, videos of the incident quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing nationwide attention. Both Republicans and Democrats shared prayers and condolences online. Trump again urged support, stating in another Truth Social post, “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”
