President Trump talked about his expected meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He spoke to a news anchor Jeff Glor of CBS. Trump said in an interview that he was going into the meeting with low expectations.
The President was known for his desire to befriend Putin and spoke highly of him despite warnings from his own.
This was causing great concern among many Americans who consider Putin a grave threat to national security.
Trump recently joked about Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin getting along great together.
Trump had still proclaimed that there was no collusion of election meddling but now there was concern about American involvement as well.
From Within?
Reports indicated that there was possible cause to believe that America’s own may have been involved in tampering with the 2016 Presidential Election.
“It’s standard practice to start at the outside of the misconduct and work towards the center,” said David Kris.
Kris once worked in the DOJ under the Obama Administration where he handled national security matters.
He added, “depending on what other evidence Mueller has, it might start to look like the walls are starting to close in on the president and his closest associates.”
However no one from the U.S. had been charged with any crime and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein asked persons to refrain from assumptions.
“In our justice system, everyone who’s charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. It should go without saying that people who are not charged with a crime also are presumed innocent,” Rosenstein said.
Meeting Woes
The President said in the CBS interview that it would be a god thing as he made reference to other Countries he visited.
“I think it’s a good thing to meet. I do believe in meetings. I believe that having a meeting with Chairman Kim was a good thing. I think having meetings with the president of China was a very good thing, he added. “I believe it’s really good. So having meetings with Russia, China, North Korea, I believe in it. Nothing bad is going to come out of it, and maybe some good will come out.”
All didn’t share the President’s sentiments and felt he would bring great hurt to the Nation.
“These revelations add to a body of evidence confirming an extensive plot by Vladimir Putin’s government to attack the 2016 election, sow chaos and dissension among the American electorate, and undermine faith in our democracy,” Sen. John McCain said in a statement. “If President Trump is not prepared to hold Putin accountable, the summit in Helsinki should not move forward.”
However Trump was sticking to his agenda to have a relationship with Putin.
“I call it the rigged witch hunt,” Mr. Trump said. “I think that really hurts our country and it really hurts our relationship with Russia.”
He made these comments while talking to reporters with British Prime Minister Theresa May.
