A budget deal which consisted of $390 billion was proposed to the Congress. The budget could see many areas receiving the funding it needed to operate fully without concern.
This deal didn’t go down well with some Republicans and Democrats however who are against it. Some considered the spending bill reckless and said “no” to the idea.
The deal could see the Government once again shutdown as no immigration deal had yet been given to Democrats.
Nancy Pelosi spoke for over eight hours in a bid to get the immigration deal she wanted. She made it clear she wouldn’t give her support if Paul Ryan didn’t make way for such a bill to be passed.
Republicans
Many Republicans disapproved of the budget deal and said they wouldn’t be supporting it.
Rep. Mo Brooks said “I’m not only a ‘no.’ I’m a ‘hell no.”
Rep. Dave Brat called the deal a “Christmas tree on steroids.”
“This spending proposal is disgusting and reckless – the biggest spending increase since 2009,” said Rep. Justin Amash. “I urge every American to speak out against this fiscal insanity.”
“It’s a terrible deal,” Jim Jordan said. “I never thought Speaker Ryan would be supportive of this, I just never thought the Speaker would go here with these high numbers.”
Democrats
“We would need votes coming from both ways,” said Rep. Chris Collins. “Pelosi I guess won’t vote for it, but … I do think we will have a number of Democrats that would break.”
He was certainly right about his assessment of Nancy Pelosi, who took a long time to make her case.
She said “our basic request is honor the House of Representatives, give us a chance to have a vote on the floor.”
She cited her refusal to vote for any deal unless Paul Ryan got on board.
The question was asked if Paul Ryan would give in to demands on the Democrats immigration policy. The idea was that he might need to do so to get the spending deal passed.
“If he wants to remain speaker of the House, he needs to be very careful with that,” Idaho Rep. Raul Labrador said.
If this was the case and no one was going to budge we could very well see another Government Shutdown.
Chuck Schumer was one of those who formulated the deal along with Mitch McConnell. This meant that Schumer and Pelosi couldn’t be on the same page on some matters.
It was a wait and see now as the House needed the votes to pass the bill and some from both sides weren’t on board.
